The Woodson Terrace Veterans Memorial is located inside the parameters of the John L. Brown Park (Stansberry & Calvert Avenues).  The Memorial was dedicated in honor and memory of the late Bob Madden and is known as the Robert J. Madden Veterans Monument.  Bob served on the Veterans Committee from its inception in February 2004 and continued to serve until health issues plagued him.  Bob died on March 8th, 2008.

The Committee orchestrates 2 ceremonies each year ... Memorial Day and Veterans Day.  Although Memorial Day is set aside to honor those who have died while serving in the Armed Forces, and Veterans Day for all those who are, or have,  served in the Armed Forces, these folks are acknowledged on each of these days.  The Memorial Day Ceremony is always held on Memorial Day which is the last Monday in May so the actual date fluctuates each year & Veterans Day is November 11th & that date remains in tact but the day of the week fluctuates; however the Veterans Day Ceremony is held the Saturday prior to Veterans Day.  Both ceremonies begin @ 9:30 AM & “covered seating” is available.  The Memorial Day Ceremony includes “The Bell Ceremony” & there are 65+ deceased Woodson Terrace Veterans for which we have a name & a short synopsis.

C.A.R.E. Packages are an on going service project & recipients are Woodson Terrace enlisted men and/or women.

The Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program is an annual service project the Committee participates in.  Committee Member Caroline Martin oversees this.

In October the Committee purchases all the food, beverages, etc. & goes to the Missouri Veterans Home on Lewis & Clark Blvd. & bar-b-ques for the 300+ Veterans residing there.

The Committee makes donations to various approved Military and/or Veterans organizations including The Missouri Veterans Home, POW-MIA Museum @ Jefferson Barracks, Fisher House, etc.

Additional Veterans Committee activities and service projects include the “WW2 Honor Flight Program” of which the Committee has sponsored several resident Veterans and several Committee members assist in the departing/arriving Honor Flights at Lambert International Airport.
